The Bruins are facing a lot of tough circumstances this upcoming season with captain Patrice Bergeron and reliable #2C David Krejci both retiring. Additionally, thanks to the salary cap, players like Taylor Hall had to be moved, and top defenseman Dimiri Orlov could not be re-signed.

During the exhibition play, a much more personal tragedy struck the organization.

Tragedy Strikes the Bruins Coaching Staff

The Boston Bruins' official Twitter account released the news late Wednesday afternoon that Head Coach Jim Montgomery's mother, Dorothy, passed away.
Sources close to the Bruins organization say that Montgomery's mother passed away earlier in the week, on Monday. Montgomery chose to remain in Boston to coach his team against the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday.
He left Boston for Montreal on Wednesday to attend funeral services. He will miss the Bruins' next exhibition game Friday versus the Philadelphia Flyers at home in Boston.

When Will Montgomery Return?

Montgomery is slated to return to his coaching duties on Sunday, October 1. He will be behind the bench when the Bruins again play the Philadelphia Flyers on Monday. Boston will have two additional games remaining before the NHL season starts on Tuesday, October 10.
This can provide the Bruins team with a lot more inspiration and passion as they look to battle for the Stanley Cup in 2023-24.
