The Pittsburgh Penguins summer was a busy one, as the team made several big moves, with none impacting their Stanley Cup chances more than the deal to acquire Norris Trophy winner Erik Karlsson.

Too much talent?

While there's no such thing as too much talent in a sport like hockey, the arrival of Karlsson does pose one huge question for Mike Sullivan and the Penguins: who gets to Quarterback the first power play unit?

Typically, teams will play four forwards with a defenseman to QB the unit, and with both Karlsson and Kris Letang, it's a massive decision, and now, the Penguins coach has revealed their game plan for early in the year.

A lethal power play

According to Sullivan, the team will look to play both Letang and Karlsson on the same power play, and with Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, Jake Guentzel, Reilly Smith and others preparing to slot into the other three spots, it's a stacked group no matter how you play it.

The power play is very important to Erik and Kris. So we'll start with both of them on the top unit. And so we'll see how it goes. We've got a lot of options.

It's unclear whether this is the plan for the whole season or just a trial run as the pre-season approaches, but regardless, it appears the Penguins are in a great spot on the power play as they prepare for a major Stanley Cup push in 2023-24.
