Chicago Blackhawks Associate General Manager Jeff Greenberg has agreed to become the new General Manager of the MLB Detroit Tigers.
Blackhawks Lose Top Executive To Baseball
Jeff Greenberg, 37, who had joined the Chicago Blackhawks in 2022, returns to Baseball after a lengthy tenure with the Chicago Cubs, spending 11 years with the Cubs in various role, accumulating in Greenberg being the team's Assistant General Manager before making the transfer to Hockey.
Greenberg, who had joined the Blackhawks as Associate GM without having been involved in a MLB job search, interviewed internally for the Blackhawks GM job after the resignation of Stan Bowman, which ultimately went to Kyle Davidson.
The signing of Greenberg was first reported by ESPN MLB Insider Jeff Passan.
Greenberg was apart of the Cubs historic 2016 World Series win, snapping a Championship drought since the 1908, one of the most infamous title hunts in North American sports history. Greenberg fostered a focus on analytics and development while employed with the Cubs, an asset he looked to bring into the Blackhawks, trying to focus on ensuring both the main roster and depth pool were strong and well-maintained.
The goal will likely now be to foster Detroit's youth culture, with 2020 1st Overall Pick Spencer Torkelson and Riley Greene being potential star players, although both of whom have suffered from bouts of inconsistency with the growing pains of adapting to the league. The Tigers farm system was ranked 13th by MLB.com in August, after having been ranked 25th in the Preseason.
