Since being drafted 5th overall in 2015, Noah Hanifin has emerged as an elite defenseman who can chip in offensively when need be. Currently entering the final year of his deal, Hanifin has made it clear he wants a new start and it appears that the Columbus Blue Jackets may be the perfect landing spot.
Here's what NHLTradeRumors.com had to say about Hanifin:
Kirill Marchenko and Andrew Peeke would certainly be a lot to give up for Hanifin. Marchenko was one of the most quietly underrated goal scorers in the NHL last season scoring 21 goals and 25 points in 59 games. With the right linemates, Marchenko could emerge as a legitimate topline player given his finishing ability.
Peeke also has lots of potential, he has posted poor numbers thus far but considering the team he is on, it is rather alright. He could be a second pairing defenseman in the right system and Calgary has that system that could help Peeke.
Columbus has made it clear that they want to have an elite defense in the future. They went out and acquired Damon Severson and Ivan Provorov earlier this offseason. They also drafted David Jiricek and Denton Mateychuk with the 6th and 12th picks of the 2022 draft showing they want their prospect cupboard full.
With Zach Werenski on the top pairing, Noah Hanifin could slot in right beneath him and have the Blue Jackets' defense set for the foreseeable future.
