Writer Reveals The One Certainty About Crosby's Next Deal
While everybody is worried about Auston Matthews' new deal, writer Dave Molinari is wondering what the Penguins will sign Crosby to.
Crosby's Previous Deals
Sidney Crosby has signed three total NHL contracts. One was his ELC which was rightfully maxed out. The next two were eerily similar. His second contract was for five years carrying an AAV of $8.7 million. His third contract, the one he is currently on, lasts for 12 years and also carries an AAV of $8.7 million.
Crosby has made one thing clear, he is a big fan of 87. Crosby's number is 87 and his birthday is 8/7/87 which inspired his number choice. By choosing $8.7 million to be his AAV for most of his career, it is clear that Crosby is fine with his contract.
The One Certainty
Penguins writer Dave Molinari has revealed the thing that he believes is the one certainty for Crosby's next contract.
A variation of 87 in Crosby's next contract would not be surprising at all. Many NHLers are superstitious and Crosby is no exception.
Coming off a 93-point campaign, Crosby is still well worth an $8.7 million contract but if he were to regress hard over the next two years, we could expect Kyle Dubas and the Penguins to work on fitting 87 into his contract some other way.
