Ontario Police are expected to reveal the results of the long-awaited investigation into unnamed members of Canada's 2018 World Junior Championship squad accused of multiple crimes, according to a report.

Charges expected to be filed soon in WJC case

According to a report last week from Radio-Canada, presented charges were expected to be "imminent" in the crimes against a woman in a London, Ontario hotel room, reported to be by members of Canada's 2018 World Juniors team.

Martin Leclerc of Radio-Canada confirms the reporting in an opinion blog, wondering why there is a continued delay into the announcement of the details of the investigation. According to Radio-Canada sources, Ontario police are nearing charges, although as to when is unknown.

And just last week, Quebec police sources told Radio-Canada that Ontario police were preparing to lay charges and that it was a matter of days.

A Slow And Tedious Investigation

The NHL, as less so Ontario Police, have been vocally criticized over the slowness of providing the results of the investigation into members of the 2018 World Juniors team. Questions have swirled around the NHL over delays in regards to the official league report into the incident, which was said to be near completion in March of 2023, but as of August 23rd, no public report has not come to fruition. NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly told Katie Strang of 'The Athletic' that there is no timetable on the public release of the NHL report.

Players from the 2018 squad have already faced consequences outside of the NHL, with Avalanche Defenseman Cale Makar being left off from the 2023 World Championship roster, even with Makar reported to have not been at the event where the alleged crimes took place. Hockey Canada President Scott Smith resigned his position following questions over the organization's handling of the allegations. To this date, no official information has been made public of the details of the incident.
