The New York Islanders of the 2000s were known for their dysfunction. One of the moves that was considered the most strange was the hiring of Garth Snow immediately after retiring from the team. Now Snow has spoken about his time on the Island for the first time since being dismissed.

In a recent New York Post article Snow spoke about the end of his time with the Islanders. He spoke about the hiring of Lou Lamoriello and the moves made directly after Snow was replaced. Snow claims that Lamoriello began implementing all of the things that Snow had suggested to ownership.

There were things I'd recommend that got shot down. And then I chuckled when Lou [Lamoriello] got hired and well, they're gonna go do the things I recommended. - Garth Snow #Isles

This news comes as a surprise to many as it's the first time this has come out in all of the years since Snow's firing.

Lamoriello Succeeds In Wake Of Snow Firing

Garth Snow spent 12 years as the General Manager of the New York Islanders in his time he led them to 3 playoff appearances. The best team he was General Manager for ended up was a Conference Quarterfinal loss.

As for Lamoriello, in his five seasons as General Manager, he has led the Islanders to a Conference Finals and a Stanley Cup Final. While he has not gotten them across the final hurdle it is safe to say he has had more success than his predecessor.

If Snow's ideas were truly taken by the next ownership and management they were built upon better than Snow was likely to given his track record. While Snow was a respectable General Manager given the circumstances he was given the Islanders clearly made the right choice going with Lou Lamoriello.
