After representing the Montreal Canadiens for eight seasons, veteran Jeff Petry thought he was done with the organization, until this past weekend when he was involved in a blockbuster for Erik Karlsson, sending him back north.

A surprising reunion

While it was well known Petry was likely on the move in a deal for Erik Karlsson, no one saw a return to Montreal coming, and now, it is rumoured that GM Kent Hughes is looking to move on from the veteran again.

Since the trade, no one has heard from Petry, until know, as he has made his first public comments since returning to the Canadiens organization for the first time since 2021-22.

Trade incoming?

As always, Petry is a well-spoken, respected veteran, and when Sportsnet reporter Eric Engels reached out to him, this was his reaction to the Montreal return:

I reached out to them, and they are doing well under the circumstances. What happened happened, and they understand the hockey business well. They are aware that Kent Hughes will try to trade the veteran defenseman before the start of the season, but if it doesn't happen, they will come to Montreal and do everything in their power to turn the situation into a positive one.

Unsurprisingly, Petry is staying positive through the move, and while it appears he's awaiting another trade, in the potential situation of a return to the Canadiens lineup, he's ready to make the best of it.
