The Montreal Canadiens' offseason business is not done yet with the franchise looking to move on from one of their newest pieces.

Canadiens Major Move

Today, the Montreal Canadiens were an integral part of the three-team Erik Karlsson trade.

The Canadiens reacquired Jeff Petry at a cheaper price as Pittsburgh retained 25% of the defenseman's contract. They also got a 2nd, Casey DeSmith, and Nathan Legare which is fantastic for only giving up Mike Hoffman and Rem Pitlick.

Recent reports have surfaced saying that the Canadiens are already looking to move on from the 35-year-old defender.

Coming off of a 31-point season (41-point pace), Petry has proven to be a valuable offensive defenseman. After spending nearly a decade in Montreal, it seems that despite them reacquiring him, he may be moved somewhere else.

Both Buffalo and Dallas are in interesting positions and if they could get Montreal to retain 50% of the current Petry contract, they could be willing to move a first-round pick to do so.
