The Arizona Coyotes have been no stranger to crazy, puzzling moves over the past two decades, but one of their recent moves may have been one of the weirdest we've ever seen.

In 2022-23, center Jack McBain completed his first full season at the NHL level, tallying a solid 12 goals and 14 assists over 82 games, enough for the team to bring him back on a new two-year deal.

That was a wise move for Arizona, as they're looking to build around this young core of Clayton Keller, Dylan Guenther and Logan Cooley, but it wasn't signing McBain that was strange, but rather the terms of his new contract.

A strange number indeed

After a solid year, McBain deserved to get paid as he has plenty of potential, but now CapFriendly has confirmed the deal comes in at two-years, $3,199,998, meaning his annual value sits at $1,599,999.99.

Yes, that means McBain will earn exactly one penny shy of $1.6 million for each of the next two years, as he looks to establish himself, and it appears there's absolutely no explanation for this odd deal. Still, it's great value for both parties, no matter how puzzling that number truly is.
