A few weeks after re-signing with the KHL's Barys Astana, forward Michael Chaput has agreed to a mutual contract termination with the team:

Reports say that the contract termination was due to Chaput needing a much longer recovery time than expected from an injury.

"#Barys Astana (#KHL) and forward 🇨🇦Michael Chaput have mutually cut ties just a few weeks after signing a new 1-year contract.

Chaput, 31, played just 10 games last season due to an ongoing injury. It was discovered that his recovery and rehab will take significantly longer than previously expected - resulting in the termination." Hockey Worldwide said in an Instagram post.

The former NHLer was drafted in the 3rd round of the 2010 NHL Draft, and spent time with the Columbus Blue Jackets, Vancouver Canucks, Montreal Canadiens, and Arizona Coyotes.

42 Million Rubles roughly translates to $610,000 Canadian Dollars.
