So much for a trade. The Philadelphia Flyers have announced they are parting ways with defenseman Tony DeAngelo. He has been placed on unconditional waivers for the purpose of buying out his contract.

Done Deal?

For the past few days, a trade between the Flyers and the Carolina Hurricanes for DeAngelo seemed imminent, but it's safe to assume that fell through. DeAngelo will be a free agent once he clears waivers, and free to sign with any team that wants him.

This is DeAngelo's second time on unconditional waivers for the purpose of terminating his contract. The first time was when he was with the New York Rangers in 2021, after an altercation between him and teammate Alex Georgiev.
