The Maple Leafs have had a clear goal this offseason and that is to get tougher in all facets of the game.

Leafs Look To Add Tough Guy

The Maple Leafs are tired of losing the playoffs. There are two ways to win playoff games. The first is to be better than the other team and the second is to be tougher than the other team. The Leafs have all of the skill in the world and now will look to add elite grit.

On NHL Network today, insider Elliotte Friedman dropped some massive news concerning the Leafs offseason plans.

«I don't think they're done there yet, I don't know if it will be a Ryan Reaves type on defence, I don't know if those players exist anymore, but I do think they're going to try and get longer, meaner and nastier on the blueline» - Elliotte Friedman

Where is the Space

The Leafs have a pretty full roster safe to say. They are currently over $8 million over the in season salary cap limit without even signing their starting goalie. They will need to shed some cap space later on this offseason which could mean an expensive defenseman is on his way out.

They currently have TJ Brodie making $5 million with only one year left on his contract which could mean he could be moved out to create cap space and allow the Leafs to move for a tough defenseman.

If not, there are not many enforcer defenseman on the open market but they could always try and find a diamond in the rough.
