Hockey is a fast and quick paced sport and lives can change in the matter of seconds. For one very unfortunate hockey player that was sadly the case.

The Injury

Isaac Dixon was playing for the Grand Falls Rapids in the MHL when a collision into the boards left Dixon with a fractured vertebra back in 2020.

Due to the injury stopping the young player from playing the sport of hockey he is now launched a lawsuit against Hockey Canada and teams.

The Lawsuit

Court documents filed at the Court of King's Bench in Saint John describe Dixon' injury.

Dixon said in his documents that after he passed the puck to a teammate, Blizzard's defenseman Jeremy Duguay made contact with him by pushing his elbow into his chest and his knee behind Dixon's leg in a forward motion.
The hit forced Dixon to go off balance and alleges that Duguay continued to drive him into the boards backwards with a cross check motion.
Dixon said he was immediately felt severe back pain and an inability to move his legs.

The Defendants

There are 7 defendants in the lawsuit including, Dixon's own team the Grand Falls Rapids, the Edmundston Blizzard and Jeremy Duguay are all named.
The MHL and the Canadian Junior Hockey League are also listed as defendants for falling to ensure safety rules were in place or followed by the teams.
AIG Insurance Company of Canada is also listed.
The court has yet to hear the court and the allegations have not been tested in front of a judge.
