There is likely to be some division amongst fans over this one, but Milan Lucic is reuniting with a former team of his. According to Rick Dhaliwal, a deal between Lucic and the Boston Bruins will be signed when free agency officially opens on July 1st.

Terms

How much money Lucic is getting and for how long remains to be seen. However, at 35 years of age, it's most likely short term, and probably just for one season. He'll be making much less than the $6 million AAV he got for the last seven years. It'll probably be in the $1 million range depending on how generous the Bruins want to be with their former player, one who won a Stanley Cup with the team in 2011 and was a big part of the team getting there.

Background

Lucic began his career with Boston after being drafted in the 2nd round (50th overall) in 2006. His best offensive years were with the Bruins, although he continued that strong play through a year with the LA Kings, and his first year with Edmonton. His rapid decline began during the 2nd year of a seven year deal with Edmonton. Lucic was eventually shipped to the Calgary Flames, where he played out the last four years of the deal.
Lucic will no longer add a lot of offense, but grit and toughness are something that NHL teams still want.
