Penguins Star Reportedly Seeking Massive Contract Extension
Pittsburgh Penguins President Kyle Dubas may have jumped out of the frying pan and into the fire when it comes to leaving the Toronto Maple Leafs. Less than a month in and it seems he has his first demand.
Huge Ask
According to a recent article from The Athletic, Jake Guentzel is asking for a big increase over the current $6 million he will make next season. The 28-year-old is reportedly seeking a long-term deal with an annual average value north of the $9 million dollar range.
Here or There
The main question Dubas will have to ask himself is whether Guentzel can get this kind of money elsewhere. The answer is likely yes. Guentzel is sure to be one of the biggest names hitting free agency after 2023-24. 40 goals two years ago, and another 36 last year gives him great leverage.
The Question
The biggest question on Guentzel is whether he can continue that pace with NHL mega star Sidney Crosby playing with him on a regular basis. If Dubas can't give him what he wants, we may find out.
