With free agency fast approaching, teams are deciding which of their restricted free agents are getting qualifying offers and who will be cut loose to be allowed to sign anywhere. The St. Louis Blues will be cutting loose a player that was once a highly-touted pick.

11th Overall

Logan Brown was taken 11th overall by the Ottawa Senators in 2016. He had great seasons with the Windsor Spitfires of the OHL, and helped Team USA win a bronze medal at the World Juniors in 2018. But he was never able to turn the potential into a full-time NHL job. After three seasons of playing mostly with Bellville of the AHL, Brown was sent to the St. Louis Blues in an exchange for Zach Sanford. He showed signs of his potential in his first year with the Blues, but managed just two goals and six points in 30 NHL games in 2022-23.

Retaining Brown

Brown's qualifying offer as an RFA was $787K, just above the league minimum. That's likely an indication of his chances of getting an offer elsewhere. However, there's still lots of time for someone to sign the 25-year-old before the 2023-24 season begins.
