Alex Ovechkin is one of the most eclectic and entertaining players in the league. Now nearly 20 years into his NHL career, he has developed some signature things.

He is now making sure that they are unequivocally his.

Ovechkin Files Patent for Catchphrase

Ovechkin, also known by some as The Russian Machine, is chasing Wayne Gretzky's goal record, and making a case for himself in the top end of all-time players.

He is now trademarking one of his classic catch phrases: Russian Machine Never Breaks.

Alex Ovechkin has reportedly applied to patent the phrase "Russian Machine Never Breaks."

If approved, the famous saying cannot be used without his consent.

Per The Hockey News, Ovechkin first used the phrase seventeen years ago.

Ovechkin first uttered the phrase back on Oct. 26, 2006 in a post-practice media availability. The night before, he left the Capitals' tilt against the Colorado Avalanche, a 5-3 win, with 2.7 seconds to go in regulation after taking Shaone Morrisonn's wrist shot to the right leg. He had been helped off the ice, but the next day, he was at practice and back to normal.

When asked how he was feeling, he responded, "I'm okay. Russian machine never breaks."

Is was definitely a true statement then, and nearly two decades later he is still at the top of his game.
