The Hurricanes have gotten close to the Stanley Cup of late but may need one large piece to push them over the edge. Reports say they are working on that trade.

Carolina Hurricanes Reportedly Working on a Blockbuster Trade With an Eastern Conference Rival

The Hurricanes have made the Eastern Conference Finals twice in the past five years being swept both times.

It is clear they could win the cup if they just acquired a superstar. Some will argue Sebastian Aho is a superstar but there is a difference between 80 points of production and 100.

Long-time Toronto radio host Howard Berger has eluded to the Hurricanes working on a trade with the Maple Leafs that would send Mitch Marner to Carolina.

While there are no details on who the Leafs would be getting in return if the Hurricanes target Marner, Berger has made it clear who he wants from Carolina.

Jaccob Slavin is one of, if not the best defensive defenseman in the NHL. With two years left on his contract, Slavin would be a cap cut for Toronto to acquire.

Marner would provide 100 point upside for Carolina and could help their scoring woes and be an elite two-way winger to pair alongside Sebastian Aho and Andrei Svechnikov.
