There is a reason Joel Quenneville hasn't coached in two years. His involvement in the 2010 Blackhawks controversy is undeniable, and many believe it's a disgrace to have him in the league.

However, he is still a very skilled head coach, with three Stanley Cup wins under his belt. For the New York Rangers, who were just ousted in the first round by the New Jersey Devils, he seems to be the frontrunner to get things back on track.

Rangers Eyeing Quenneville

Quenneville has coached both Artemi Panarin and Patrick Kane, and he definitely has Stanley Cup pedigree.

Per Frank Seravalli, he is the man the Rangers are targetting:

Seravalli said he expects a coaching change with the Rangers.

Mentions there's open speculation Quenneville could land there if cleared by the NHL.

However, his involvement in the scandal in Chicago in 2010 looms, and Gary Bettman and the NHLPA would have to clear him to coach again.

If he is cleared and the Rangers bring him in, it will inevitably cause controversy, but if they win a Stanley Cup fans probably won't care too much.

For those affected by the 2010 Blackhawks scandal, however, this would be a major dagger to the back.

We will see what Bettman and the Rangers decide.
