While the media of today often operate without accountability, Don Cherry continues to be the gold standard for Canadian media. The former Hockey Night in Canada host, was terminated from his contract with Sportsnet and CBC, but has continued on his own. Cherry launched his own Grapevine Podcast as an outlet to share his opinions and hockey thoughts.

On a recent edition of the podcast however, Cherry and his son Tim, discussed the possible Norris Trophy nominees. During the podcast the two both felt Dougie Hamilton was deserving of consideration, but the two had forgot that Hamilton had signed with the New Jersey Devils as a free agent. The two thought momentarily that Hamilton still remained with the Hurricanes. Rather than just deleting the recording, instead Cherry took to Twitter to own up to his mistake.

Tim and I screwed up on the podcast today. We said Dougie Hamilton plays for the Canes, and as we all know he plays for the Devils. Oh well. What ever team he plays for he should be in the running for the Norris but not a word about him.

While this likely doesn't seem like much, it's far more than other podcasters or media. Cherry continues to be the gold standard in the hockey media as he continues to try and grow the game and hold himself and others accountable. It's great to see and hear that Cherry even at 89-years-old, is still a national treasure.
