One day after placing forward Ryan O'Reilly on long-term injured reserve, the Toronto Maple Leafs announced that the 32-year-old underwent successful surgery on his broken finger and will be out for the next four weeks.

The Clinton (Ontario) native broke his finger after taking a shot with his left hand during Saturday night's loss to the Vancouver Canucks. He left the game late in the second period and did not return.

O'Reilly was the big fish the Maple Leafs landed ahead of the trade deadline, acquiring him, and Noel Acciari, from the St. Louis in a three-way deal that included the Minnesota Wild.

In eight games with the Maple Leafs, O'Reilly has five points (three goals, two assists), two penalty minutes and is a plus-one. All three of O'Reilly's goals in a Toronto uniform came against the Buffalo Sabres on February 21st.

The earliest O'Reilly could return to the Maple Leafs' lineup is on Tuesday, April 4th against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
