Back in July 2022, the Pittsburgh Penguins went out and acquired veteran defenceman Jeff Petry, along with forward Ryan Poehling from the Montreal Canadiens, in exchange for defenceman Mike Matheson and a 2023 fourth-round pick.

So far, his first season with the Penguins hasn't been terrible, but certainly doesn't help that he missed five weeks with a back injury in December and January. But Petry's time with the Pittsburgh Penguins may be coming to an end, seven months after joining the team.

According to Dan Kingerski of Pittsburgh Hockey Now, the Penguins have reportedly made Jeff Petry available for trade ahead of the NHL's deadline on Friday, March 3rd.

Kingerski added that the Penguins have a bigger need on their roster, than having a right-shot, powerplay QB and that need is an upgrade on their third forward line.

The 35-year-old has two years left on his contract with a cap hit of $6.25 million. His contract also includes a modified no-trade clause with a 15-team no-trade list, as well as a no-movement clause. Taking his salary, modified NTC and NMC into account, it won't be easy for the Penguins to trade Petry.

In 40 games this season, the Ann Arbor (Michigan) native has 19 points (three goals, 16 assists), 18 penalty minutes and is a plus-one.
