The waiver wire was very active on Wednesday afternoon, as according to TSN's Chris Johnston, a trio of players were placed on it by their respective teams for the purpose of being assigned to the American Hockey League. Those players are, Justin Kirkland (Anaheim), Chris Tierney (Florida), Joey Anderson (Toronto).

Kirkland, 26, has spent the majority of his time this season in the American Hockey League with the San Diego Gulls, but has skated in seven games for Anaheim, where he has no points or penalty minutes and is a minus-three. He made his NHL debut in December against the Los Angeles Kings.

Tierney, 28, is in his ninth NHL season, but has split his time this campaign between the Panthers and their AHL affiliate, the Charlotte Checkers. In 13 games for Florida, he's put up three points (two goals, one assist), two penalty minutes and is a minus-one. Tierney signed with the Panthers last summer after spending the previous four seasons with the Ottawa Senators.

Anderson, 24, is in his third season with the Toronto Maple Leafs organization after being dealt to them in October 2020 by New Jersey. So far this season, the Roseville (Minnesota) native has 27 points in 30 games for the AHL's Toronto Marlies and three points in 14 games for the Maple Leafs.
