Now that Bo Horvat is a New York Islander, the next big question is whether or not Lou Lamoriello just traded Anthony Beauvillier, Aatu Raty, and a 1st-round pick for a pure rental.

That isn't really Lou's style, so a contract extension is much more likely. Lamoriello front-ran the market to acquire Ilya Kovalchuk in 2010 in similar fashion, and everyone remembers how that went down.

Apparently, Horvat's contract extension with the Islanders will ring in somewhere around seven-years, $8.5 million per season.

Considering the Islanders pay their current centers a combined $20.5 million (not including Mat Barzal's $9.5M/year which kicks in next season) that would be a big ticket for Horvat. Not to say he isn't worth it, though.

Horvat not only provides quality scoring, he is also a natural leader and brings loads of intangibles into the fold. It does make me wonder if Lou has another trade or two up his sleeve sometime before the start of the 2023-24 season.

Maybe even another one before the trade deadline too...
