With the news of Bruce Boudreau's dismissal and Rick Tocchet assuming the head coaching role, the Vancouver Canucks now have three head coaches on their payroll for this season.
Travis Green is still earning a paycheck to not coach for Vancouver, joining Boudreau and Tocchet. All told, Vancouver is allocating $7.5 million to three head coaches, two of whom don't even work for the team anymore. Just brilliant management (not).
That $7.5 million price tag - plus whatever the terminated assistant coaches were earning - gives Vancouver the most expensive coaching staff in the NHL this season. Not bad for a team that is 27th in the NHL with an 18-25-3 record in January.
Per CapFriendly, the highest paid NHL head coach that has been confirmed is Los Angeles Kings head coach Todd McLellan at $5 million.
The ownership group and the front office of the Canucks earned all the criticism facing them at present. They mistreated their head coach, stocked their roster with several overpaid players, and gave their fans next to nothing to inspire hope for the future.
Rightfully, Canucks fans are pissed.
