Jesse Puljujarvi's time in Edmonton is coming to a close and it's finally time that the two sides part ways, giving the 24-year-old Finn a fresh start elsewhere.

His tenure with the Oilers has been filled with plenty of lows and very few highs and it's hard to pinpoint when things went sour between both parties. Could it have been in the summer of 2019, when Puljujarvi, an RFA at the time, decided to head back to Finland for a season amid a contract stalemate? That's a possibility, but we'll never know.

At the time, it seemed like Puljujarvi was the best option for the Oilers, as they held the fourth overall pick in 2016. He was coming off a strong season for Karpat, where he put up 28 points in 50 games as a 17-year-old. But he hasn't panned out at the NHL level, at least not yet and that's why giving him a fresh start with another organization could be the spark he needs to reach his full potential.

One former player that agrees that Puljujarvi needs a fresh start is Hockey Hall of Famer and fellow Finn, Teemu Selanne.

"Trade Puljujärvi , he needs and deserves new fresh start somewhere else" Selanne said in a tweet this week.

Puljujarvi found himself in the press box on Tuesday night to make room in the lineup for the return of Evander Kane. So far this season, he's recorded ten points (four goals, six assists) in 45 games.
