You read that right - Robin Lehner filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in the state of Nevada in the final days of 2022 due to his ownership of an exotic snake farm, according to Ken Boehlke of SinBin - Vegas.

Boehlke writes: In the bankruptcy filing documents, Lehner is said to be the owner of RL Exotics LLC, "which operates a reptile farm in Plato, Missouri, which is an operating business with 3 employees, and which requires reptiles to be maintained and fed."

Lehner first purchased approximately $1.2 million worth of exotic snakes in 2017. This is where the story starts to go off the rails...

The man from whom the goaltender purchased the snakes - Ben Renick - was murdered by his wife, Lynlee, who was subsequently charged and sentenced to 16 years in prison.

Somewhere in between all of that paperwork, Lehner was sued in 2018 for failing to make payments for the reptiles he purchased. Lehner countersued on the basis that costs incurred exceeded a prior agreement, and the snakes started cross-breeding uncontrollably.

One thought I had while reading this was: doesn't Robin Lehner have a neck-tattoo of a snake? Yes, yes he does.

How fitting.

Boehlke writes that Lehner's filing approximates the value of his assets between $1-10 million, while his outstanding liability to creditors is between $10-50 million.

The bankruptcy claims that Lehner's debts are "primarily based on business debts that were incurred to help obtain money for a business or investment," according to Boehlke.
