San Jose Sharks defenceman Erik Karlsson is having one of the best seasons of his career, putting up 56 points (13 goals, 43 assists) in 43 games. There's no doubt that at this point, Karlsson is the front runner for the Norris Trophy.

Karlsson's name has been in trade rumours for a few months now and a move would make sense for both sides. The Sharks would be able to off-load Karlsson's $11.5 million salary, while retaining a portion and receiving multiple assets, while the 32-year-old could have a chance at winning the Stanley Cup with a contending team.

According to Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff, it was revealed earlier this week that the Sharks are willing to retain 18% of Karlsson's contract and are seeing THREE first-round picks in return. Karlsson has four more years remaining on his contract beyond the 2022-23 season.

Seravalli mentioned that one of the fits for Karlsson is his former team, one he captained for four seasons, the Ottawa Senators.

It will be interesting to watch the San Jose Sharks leading up to the trade deadline on March 3rd to see what they'll do with the Landsbro (Sweden) native. Trading Karlsson could help speed up the Sharks' rebuild/re-tool, substantially.
