The Philadelphia Flyers are in an incredibly unenviable position this season. Their active roster leaves much to be desired, they have virtually no cap space, and they are maxed out at 50 contracts.

After this season, the Flyers still have $75.6 million committed, even with James van Riemsdyk's $7M coming off the books. As such, they are in the less-than-ideal position of needing to clear cap space, which isn't easy these days (thanks, Gary).

Elliotte Friedman said on the latest 32 Thoughts Podcast that he believes defenseman Ivan Provorov will be traded this season. Provorov, signed at $6.75M through '24-25, has not reached the heights expected of him in Philadelphia, and he could net a big return for the Flyers.

Friedman and his co-host, Jeff Marek, tossed around the idea of the Winnipeg Jets having interest there. Marek alluded to the fact that head coach Rick Bowness had a role in developing star defensemen Victor Hedman, Miro Heiskanen, and most recently Josh Morrissey.

Could there be a match there? Possibly.

Winnipeg only has $1.6 million in cap space currently, so that would need sorting out before a Provorov trade. That said, there are ways to make this sort of deal happen.

Marek and Friedman also threw out the Vegas Golden Knights as a possibility because of Kelly McCrimmon's past with Provorov, but Vegas' cap situation is on par with Philadelphia's. Either way, it appears as though Provorov is one guy who the Flyers could move, with others possibly set to follow suit.
