The Nashville Predators are having a rough season, so far. Heading into Tuesday's game against the Montreal Canadiens, the Predators sit sixth in the Central Division with a record of 15-14-6 through 35 games.

General manager David Poile will more than likely explore trade options in the coming weeks, potentially involving his seven pending unrestricted free agents.

But according to Frank Seravalli of DailyFaceoff, the Predators have made veteran defenceman Mattias Ekholm, who is in year one of a four-year contract, available for trade.

"Yes, it was just over a year ago that Ekholm signed a 4-year deal worth $25 million with the Predators, mainly to avoid a situation exactly like this one – where he is on the market. But Predators GM David Poile has some uncomfortable decisions to make as Nashville has regressed to a likely non-playoff team saddled with expensive, term-laden contracts." Seravalli said.

He added, "We're told Poile is ready to consider moving Ekholm, and will have a few other cards are on the table. Could Ryan McDonagh also be available? McDonagh was convinced to waive his 'no-trade' clause to leave Tampa Bay, and that might be a tall ask this time around. And Ekholm doesn't have any 'no-trade' protection in his deal. Buckle up on Lower Broadway."

Ekholm, 32, has appeared in 35 games for Nashville this season, recording 11 points (two goals, nine assists), ten penalty minutes and is a plus-two.
