NHL's All-Star Game could be heading to Canada in 2024
During Saturday's edition of '32 Thoughts' on Hockey Night in Canada, Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman revealed that the NHL All-Star Game could be heading to Canada in 2024 and one of the teams interested in hosting is the Toronto Maple Leafs.
He added, "Edmonton's got a new building, Montreal loves to host events – although they just had the draft – but I do wonder about Toronto. I think Toronto is interested, and I think they're a potential bidder."
This season's All-Star Game is set to be held at FLA Live Arena, home of the Florida Panthers, with the skills competition on February 3rd and the mini 3-on-3 tournament being played the next day.
The National Hockey League hasn't had the All-Star Game north of the border since 2012, when the Ottawa Senators hosted the weekend's festivities at the Canadian Tire Centre. Meanwhile, the Toronto Maple Leafs haven't hosted the event since 2000.
Other options within Canada could be Edmonton or Winnipeg. Edmonton's Rogers Place has been open for six years now and could be in line to host an All-Star Game in the near future. The arena has hosted several elite level events before, such as the World Juniors and Hlinka Gretzky Cup.
As for Winnipeg, they have never hosted the NHL All-Star Game, so it would make sense to have the event there, eventually, but it's safe to say that many players around the league wouldn't like going to the Manitoba capital in the middle of winter.
