For the first time since being traded to the Edmonton Oilers on deadline day last season, Brett Kulak will face his former team, the Montreal Canadiens.

The 28-year-old enjoyed a pretty successful stint with Edmonton after the deadline, putting up eight points (two goals, six assists) in 18 games, while adding five assists in 16 Stanley Cup Playoff games.

At the conclusion of the season, he became an unrestricted free agent and opted to remain with the Oilers, signing a four-year contract worth $11 million ($2.75 million AAV). But the Oilers weren't the only team looking to sign him in the off-season.

While meeting with the media on Saturday morning, Kulak told reporters that he had discussions with the Canadiens once free agency opened on July 13th, but he decided to re-sign with the Oilers instead of returning to Montreal.

In 24 games this season, the Edmonton native has six assists, eight penalty minutes and has an even-rating.
