In last night's 3-2 shootout win over the Dallas Stars, Cale Makar set an NHL record for defensemen. The 24-year old phenom's career couldn't have gotten off to a better start.

From winning the NCAA's Hobey Baker Award, to the Calder Memorial Trophy in his rookie campaign, then winning both the Norris and Conn Smythe Trophies last season; Makar has entrenched himself as one of - if not THE - best defensemen in the game.

"Cale Makar has become the fastest defenseman to reach the 200 point marker — achieving this feat in just 195 games."

Makar is the only active defenseman in the NHL who has a point-per-game pace over his career; so far, anyway. He has earned the highest praise from legends of the past, such as Wayne Gretzky when he said Makar has the potential to reach Bobby Orr status if he hasn't already.

After the game, Makar was asked about his accomplishment. His response shows that his talent is rivaled only by his humility, as he completely deflected the spotlight off of himself and unto his teammates. A total hockey guy.
