The Montreal Canadiens announced on Friday morning that forward prospect Emil Heineman has been loaned to Leksand IF of the Swedish Hockey League for the remainder of the 2022-23 season.

Heineman was acquired by the Canadiens on February 14th, along with Tyler Pitlick, a conditional first round pick in 2022 and a fifth round pick in 2023 from the Calgary Flames in exchange for Tyler Toffoli.

The 21-year-old suffered an thumb injury during the pre-season and missed six weeks of action, beginning the 2022-23 campaign on season-opening injured reserve.

In three pre-season games, the Leksand native failed to record any points, but had nine shots-on-goal.

Heineman is expected to be in Leksand IF's line-up on Saturday evening when they face-off against Frolunda HC at 6 p.m. Swedish time. Leksand IF currently sit seventh in the SHL standings with seven wins, three overtime/shootout wins and six losses through 16 games.
