When Tage Thompson signed his monster seven-year, $50 million contract this summer, many folks questioned if it was too much too soon.

Well, those folks look pretty foolish right now, as Thompson has been on absolute FIRE to start the 2022-23 season. In 14 games heading into tonight, Thompson has 10 goals and 8 assists and ranks 9th in the NHL in low-danger expected goals, per MoneyPuck.
Tonight, he took over a Boston Bruins (2nd place in the NHL) powerplay, stripping the puck from David Pastrnak (3rd in points) and burying the puck shorthanded with an absolute pearl. Check it out:
Thompson's 6'6'' frame enables him to assert physical dominance over defenders, while his soft touch with the puck opens up so many chances for himself and the Sabres.
The Sabres have a long way to go until they are a contender, but with guys like Tage Thompson on the roster, they are well on their way out of the gutter.
