After a professional tryout at training camp with the Calgary Flames that didn't work out, Cody Eakin is heading overseas to continue his pro hockey career. The 31-year-old veteran has signed a deal with the SCL Tigers of the Swiss National League for the 2022-23 season.

"Eakin brings an enormous amount of experience to the team with his exemplary attitude. He is known for a combative style of play and will strengthen us with his faceoff and skating qualities on the powerplay and penalty kill, among other things," said Tigers' Head of Sports Pascal Müller.

Eakin made a career out of being a depth player in the NHL, participating in 701 regular season games since 2011. He was drafted in the 3rd round (85th overall) in 2009 by the Washington Capitals. After one season with the Caps, he moved to the Dallas Stars, then the Vegas Golden Knights, Winnipeg Jets, and the Buffalo Sabres. Eakin left Buffalo as a free agent after the 2021-22 season.

Eakin is expected to arrive in Switzerland in the next couple of days, and will wear number 9 for the Tigers.
