The Buffalo Sabres announced today that the club has signed head coach Don Granato to a multi-year contract extension:

''In his first season, Granato oversaw a young Sabres roster that experienced tangible improvement from beginning to end. The Sabres went 16-9-3 in March and April, a 102-point pace.''

Buffalo had a brutal decade through the 2010s, but many first-hand accounts have described a culture change ever since Granato was hired and Alex Tuch was acquired from Vegas in exchange for Jack Eichel. This change of tone has ushered in a new air of optimism for the Sabres.

Thus, Granato earns an extension similar to the one GM Kevyn Adams recently signed. The Sabres have a lot of work to do in rounding out a contending lineup, but they rest in a favorable position right now with the assets to acquire more talent while they navigate a turnaround.
