Rangers GM Chris Drury comments on rumours surrounding Nils Lundkvist

Just over two weeks ago, it was reported by Larry Brooks of the New York Post that Rangers 2018 first round pick Nils Lundkvist is frustrated with his current role on the team and that he may not report to training camp. Brooks added that the Rangers actively looking to move the 22-year-old.

On Thursday, New York Rangers General Manager Chris Drury commented on the rumours surrounding Lundkvist and said that the team is hoping he'll be at training camp next week.

"I don't really have any update on it. Obviously, we think he's a real good player. We drafted him. We've worked with him the last number of years We certainly hope he's here next week," Drury said according to Mollie Walker of the New York Post.

Lundkvist, a native of Pitea (Sweden), came over to North America ahead of the 2021-22 season after the previous three years in the Swedish Hockey League with Lulea HF. He split his time last season between the Rangers and their AHL affiliate in Hartford.

In 25 games for the Rangers, Lundkvist had four points (one goal, three assists), no penalty minutes and was a plus-four. Meanwhile in the AHL, he recorded fifteen points (three goals, twelve assists), fourteen penalty minutes and was a minus-nine.
