This has been a big day for the Ottawa Senators franchise. First, the Sens signed F Tim Stützle to a massive contract extension, and now the club is hiring franchise legends Chris Phillips and Chris Neil as club vice-presidents, per Murray Pam of FullPress:

"LeBlanc (President of Business Operations) announces Chris Phillips as vice-president of business operations and Chris Neil as vice-president of business and community development."

As Murray reports, Phillips will assume the role of VP of business opportunities and Neil, role of VP of business and Community Development.

Between them, the pair played 2,205 games for the Senators and both played their entire NHL careers with the organization. Not even Daniel Alfredsson did that, for what it's worth. Phillips and Neil are both cerebral characters in the Senators' story, and they now have roles fitting of their stature.

As for the organization, Ottawa is making all the right moves this summer, following the passing of owner Eugene Melnyk. His death appears to have jolted the club, and their future looks brighter each day. I quote George R. R. Martin: 'Only death pays for life.'

The Senators franchise and its future still face adversity, with plans for a new downtown stadium in the works and rumors abuzz over ownership selling the franchise. For now, though, it appears that leadership has the club heading in the right direction after many years peddling through the mud. This is a great time to get bullish on Ottawa.
