Last summer, after spending parts of nine seasons in the NHL, Leo Komarov decided to head back overseas and joined KHL club SKA Saint Petersburg. His time in the KHL last season allowed him to represent Finland in the Olympics, where he helped bring home their first-ever gold medal at the Winter Games.

But now his time in the KHL is over. On Sunday, Swedish Hockey League club Lulea HF announced that they've agreed to terms on a one-year contract with Komarov for the 2022-23 season.

"It feels great to be part of Luleå Hockey and it feels like an exciting challenge to take on games in the SHL. I have played with many Swedish players and have faced Sweden with the national team, so it feels like I have a handle on the level in the SHL." Komarov said.

He added, "As far as expectations for the coming season are concerned, it is for my own part to keep myself healthy and to help the team win matches. At my age, all that matters is winning, so it will be fun to come to a team that was incredibly close last year and that has a good and coordinated team this season as well."

In 18 games last season for SKA Saint Petersburg, the 35-year-old Komarov put up six points (four goals, two assists), twelve penalty minutes and was a plus-one. He went on to add three points (one goal, two assists) in sixteen playoff games.
