Pastrnak on the upcoming year: 'I'm going into my ninth season now and I haven't won hardly anything yet'

In an interview with ISport in Czechia, Boston Bruins forward David Pastrnak talked about a variety of topics. From his contract negotiations with the Bruins, reuniting with David Krejci, but the most interesting thing he had to say was in regards to winning, or lack thereof in his time with Boston.

Note: the following was translated from Czech

"I'm going into my ninth season now and I haven't won hardly anything yet. Time flies and it's a shame every year," Pastrnak said. "On the other hand, I'm healthy and I'm not worried about preparing for the new season, which I haven't been able to do for the last three years. I can work."

Individually, Pastrnak has been fairly successful in the NHL, jointly winning the Rocket Richard Trophy in the 2019-20 season with Washington Capitals captain Alexander Ovechkin. But it's a Stanley Cup that eludes Pastrnak and the Bruins, which they were so close to winning in 2019, but fell to the St. Louis Blues in Game 7.

The Havirov native is entering the final year of a six-year contract and with the Bruins signing David Krejci and Patrice Bergeron this summer to one-year contracts, it seems that they are all-in for one final run towards the Stanley Cup. But what happens after the 2022-23 season? It's hard to say, but one would imagine Boston's success this season will indicate whether or not David Pastrnak wants to remain with the Bruins.

If Boston heads for another early exit in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, or fail to qualify altogether, will Pastrnak want to leave to pursue a championship? It seems like it may be a realistic possibility.

David Pastrnak is the face of the Boston Bruins and there's no doubt General Manager Don Sweeney will try his hardest to keep the five-time 30+ goal scorer long-term, but it's a bit too early to tell whether or not he'll be able to.
