Arizona Coyotes third overall pick Logan Cooley will represent the United States at the World Juniors this week and at the conclusion of the tournament, he'll head to the University of Minnesota for his first season in the NCAA. But don't expect him to be there for very long.

In an interview while at the United States' National Junior Evaluation Camp, Cooley said that he is hoping to suit up for the Arizona Coyotes after the NCAA season ends, which is usually in late-March/early-April.

Cooley says he understands how tough it is to make an NHL roster, but believes a season of college hockey will go a long way in getting him ready.

"I just think how hard it is to crack the lineup in the NHL, how hard guys go and how much stronger I need to get too," Cooley said. "A year in college could really help. Just keep developing, and then I think I'll be ready."

He added, "Obviously, you know, I want to play in the NHL the fastest way possible. I had the chance to talk to Bill Armstrong a little bit, but it's also going to come down to what type of season I have and how I do out there. The rest will take care of itself."

Cooley, 18, spent the 2021-22 season with the US U-18 National Team Development Program where he put up 75 points (27 goals, 48 assists), 67 penalty minutes and was a plus-38 in 51 games.
