The National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety announced on Sunday evening that Edmonton Oilers forward Evander Kane has been suspended one game for boarding Colorado Avalanche forward Nazem Kadri.

The incident occurred just over a minute into the first period of Game 3 on Saturday night in Edmonton. Kadri was in the Oilers' zone getting the puck when Kane comes from behind and cross checks the Avalanche forward into the boards.

Kane was given a five-minute major for boarding on the play, but not a game misconduct, which usually accompanies any major penalty (besides fighting), while Kadri left the game and did not return. Kadri was reportedly seen leaving Rogers Place last night with a cast on his right arm.

Avalanche Head Coach Jared Bednar announced after the game that Kadri will miss at least the remainder of the Western Conference Final, possibly longer.

The Edmonton Oilers will look to stave off elimination on Monday night but it won't be easy as the Colorado Avalanche have the opportunity to complete the sweep and advance to their first Stanley Cup Final since 2001. Puck drop is set for 8 p.m. ET.
