After spending parts of five seasons in the National Hockey League as a member of the Chicago Blackhawks and Washington Capitals, pending unrestricted free agent Michal Kempny is set to head back to Europe.

According to ISport.cz, Kempny could be signing with Czech Extraliga team, Brno Kometa, alongside his teammate with the Czech national squad and former NHLer, Michal Jordan.

Note: the following is translated from Czech.

"His peer Michal Kempný is no longer bound overseas and is considering what to do next. After protracted health problems, he played more AHL games for Hersey Bears (24, 0 + 7) this year than in the NHL for Capitals (15, 1 + 1)." ISport reporter Michal Koštuřík said.

He added, "It is known that Zábranský values the Hodonín native very much, and when he has a chance to get him for Kometa again, he will do his best. This moment has apparently come now. If Kundrátek, Jordán and Kempný managed to defy the defense of the national team, Brno would immediately become one of the extra-league favorites. And this time it should be visible on the ice."

Kempny, 31, appeared in 247-career games in the NHL where he tallied 63 points (15 goals, 48 assists) and 146 penalty minutes. In 2018, he won a Stanley Cup as a member of the Washington Capitals.
