The National Hockey League announced the three nominees for the Bill Masterton Trophy on Monday morning. The Bill Masterton Trophy is given annually to "player who best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication to ice hockey."

This year's nominees are: New York Islanders defenceman Zdeno Chara, Philadelphia Flyers forward Kevin Hayes and Montreal Canadiens goaltender Carey Price.

Just before the 2021-22 season began, Kevin Hayes' brother and former NHLer Jimmy passed away, making it a very difficult season for Flyers forward.

As for Carey Price, he had off-season knee surgery and his recovery had many setback. In October, Price entered the NHL's Player Assistance Program for help with substance abuse.

He made his return to the crease on April 15th. Zdeno Chara, being the NHL's oldest player at 45, is proving everyone wrong and showing that he can still compete in the best hockey league in the world.
