The sixteen nations participating in the upcoming 2022 IIHF World Hockey Championship in Finland are beginning to prepare their rosters and send out invites to players that aren't making the playoffs in the NHL.

Following Wednesday's morning skate at Madison Square Garden, Montreal Canadiens forward Cole Caufield told reporters that USA Hockey has reached out to him about playing at the tournament next month. He added that he's focused on playing the final two games of the season and will make his decision in due time.

"I think it's a great opportunity to represent your country," Caufield said. "I'm still thinking about it, but I'm focused on these last two games."

The Mosinee (Wisconsin) native has represented his country on several occasions, most recently at the 2021 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship in Edmonton. Caufield put up five points (two goals, three assists) in seven games as the United States took home the gold medal.

If Caufield decides to participate at the World Championship, his first game with the U.S. is set for Friday, May 13th against Latvia.
