Edmonton Oilers goaltender Mike Smith has been on a tear lately, winning his last six starts, including back-to-back shutouts, Thursday against Nashville and Saturday against Vegas.

Amid injury issues and inconsistent play at times, it appears that Mike Smith has turned a corner and is playing at the same level he did last season, a year that saw him 21-6-2 in 32 games.

Following Saturday's game, Smith spoke with the media and said that he's ready to move past his struggles this season and that he feels that he's played quite well of late.

"At this time of the season, you want to be on the top of your game and be a big reason why you're headed to the playoffs and in the playoffs and playing your best games to give the team the best chance to win," Smith said.

He added, "That's all I've been focused on. I'm not dwelling on what's happened before or in the past. That's out of my control now, so I've been focused on my next game and I've really been working hard to get it back on the rails and feel like my last month or so I've been really playing some solid hockey."

With his shutout on Saturday afternoon, Smith became the sixth goalie in NHL history to record consecutive shutouts at age 40-and-over, joining Johnny Bower, Martin Brodeur, George Hainsworth, Dominik Hasek, and Dwayne Rolston.

Smith and the Oilers will be back in action on Wednesday night when they host the Dallas Stars.
