Hockey Canada continued their preparation for the 2022 IIHF World Hockey Championship on Thursday with less than a month until the tournament gets underway in Helsinki and Tampere.

According to TSN's Darren Dreger, Hockey Canada has named Rick Nash an assistant general manager for the tournament.

"Hockey Canada bolsters it's management group for the Men's World Championship. Rick Nash has been added as an assistant GM to Shane Doan." Dreger said.

Nash, 37, currently works as the director of player development for the Columbus Blue Jackets. He represented Canada on several occasions, including four World Championships, winning gold once (2007), and silver twice (2005 and 2008).

During Thursday's edition of Insider Trading on TSN, Darren Dreger added that Hockey Canada has begun to reach out to players to see who is interested in playing next month in Finland. Dreger mentioned that there seems to be a fair amount of interest among players wanting to participate, with several reaching out to Hockey Canada.

"Hockey Canada is also meanwhile starting to reach out to potential players to fill out their roster for the upcoming men's World Championship in Finland. Historically we know this could be challenging. Players have had a long season, they don't always want to jump on that plane to head overseas, but this is a little bit different. There are those who believe it's the lure of the 2024 World Cup because not only is management reaching out to players, but the players are reaching out to Hockey Canada to say 'hey if you're interested, I'm available.'" Dreger said.

Canada will open up their tournament on Friday, May 13th against Germany.
