According to Sportsnet's Jeff Marek, the Ontario Hockey League will be granting Michael Misa exceptional status, making him eligible for their draft at the end of April.

"Sounds like Michael Misa of the Mississauga Senators has been granted exceptional status and will be drafted into the OHL at the end of the month." Marek said.

He added, "No word when the official announcement will be but I'd assume it would be soon. I believe Misa's performance at the OHL Cup is what clinched it for him."

Misa, 15, spent the 2021-22 season playing for the Mississauga Senators U16 AAA team in the GHTL U16.

The Oakville (Ontario) native had a remarkable showing at the OHL Cup earlier this month, winning the championship and MVP honours. Misa broke Connor McDavid's points record in the tournament by putting up 20 (ten goals, ten assists) in seven games.

Once the OHL makes it official, Misa will become the sixth player in league history to be granted exceptional status, following in the footsteps of John Tavares, Aaron Ekblad, Connor McDavid, Sean Day and Shane Wright. Misa will be eligible for the 2025 NHL Entry Draft.

With two games remaining for most teams in the OHL, the Saginaw Spirit sit dead last with 47 points, while the Niagara IceDogs are second-last with 48 points. One of those teams will more than likely select Misa first overall later this month.
